DATE 11/03/2008 TIME 10 pm REFERENCE SMT/RH/012 Diverted from exercise: to assist motor cruiser, blown aground on the eastern bank of the River Rother.Rye Harbour RNLI Lifeboat, B727, was diverted from their weekly exercise on Sunday 9 March 2008 to assist Thelda an eight meter motor cruiser - suffering from engine failure and being blown aground on the eastern bank of the River Rother between Rye Harbour and Rye.The alarm was raised at 12.30 pm by Carl Bagwell, Harbour Master. Rye Harbour Lifeboat diverted from their weekly exercise and was with the casualty at 12.40 pm. The casualty was taken in tow and returned to it's moorings at Rye Town. The Lifeboat returned to station at 1.20 pm and was ready for service at 2.10 pm. Richard Tollett, RNLI Lifeboat Operations Manager at Rye Harbour said: ‘ This may seem a routine problem to us, but if you are the captain suffering the engine failure then it is a very real problem to you’. ‘Boat owners can find out more about sea safety at the RNLI website: www.rnliseasafety.org.uk.’ END
