Cabin Cruiser 'Sea Fury' aground at Rye Harbour.

Rye Harbour RNLI Lifeboat, B727 'Commander and Mrs Rodney Wells', launched Saturday 24 November 2007 at 20.07 pm, to the 17ft cabin cruiser 'Sea Fury' which had run aground at Rye Harbour Entrance after a wave swamped the engine.

Whilst returning to harbour, a wave swamped the engine of 'Sea Fury' causing loss of power. The waves forced the boat ashore at Camber on the eastern side of the white light. The alarm was raised by the Harbour Master, after he received a telephone call from the stranded boat. The lifeboat crew were paged by the Lifeboat Operation Manager and the lifeboat launched at 20.07pm arriving at the casualty shortly after.

The crew of 'Sea Fury', Dean Avis and Tony Clarke, managed to get the auxiliary engine started which then stopped. The boat was refloated and the lifeboat towed 'Sea Fury' and her crew back to their mooring at Rye.

Richard Tollett, Lifeboat Operation Manager at Rye Harbour Lifeboat station said:

‘When boating, you should always be prepared. You never know when things will go wrong.’
